Become an Assistant

Live-In Assistants who come to live in a L’Arche community, provide support and share in friendships with Core Members (persons with intellectual disabilities).  Assistants find their time at L’Arche to be filled with meaning, growth, friendship, challenge, and fun.  Assistants come to live in L’Arche often for one year.  For some, L’Arche is a career.

Through friendship, meaningful work, fun social activities, and home life, Assistants and Core Members (persons with intellectual disabilities) build communities of belonging together.  Assistants support Core Members in their everyday lives through:

Friendship and Sharing Life– prepare and eat meals together, live together in a L’Arche home, spend time going on outings, hang out together, plan celebrations, share spirituality

Providing direct care and personal support– help someone to get dressed, give medication, assist with mobility and appointments

Supporting in daily activities – drive someone to work, shop for groceries, run errands, keep the house clean

Sharing talents and gifts – participate in and help to organize community activities and events.

Interested?  We look forward to hearing from you!

Before arrival, Assistants are screened through an application process that includes a full reference and criminal record check, including a vulnerable sector search. New Assistants are trained in all Core Standards and regularly upgrade their skills.  L’Arche London welcomes Assistants through an online application process in conjunction with L’Arche Canada.

*If you are located in the London, Ontario, Canada area and would like to apply, please reach out to our Assistants Coordinator, via email rachel@larchelondon.org
