From Kitchen to Community: Hospitality with Heart
Since its inception in August 2017, the Bonjour Café has empowered individuals with intellectual disabilities to operate a weekly café. Initially funded by the Ontario Trillium Foundation and now (2024-2025) supported by the Westminster College Foundation, this program teaches participants vital kitchen skills, cash register operations, guest hospitality, and table service. All the food and drinks for the café are prepared in our kitchen at the Gathering Place.
The DISH program offers a comprehensive training pathway that includes theory classes taught by L’Arche London’s Culinary Leader, hands-on training and food production in the kitchen, and internship opportunities at Bonjour Café and the Centre for Lifelong Learning. This initiative equips participants with intellectual disabilities with independent skills in hospitality, preparing them for future employment.
